Fishing outside the park

Capitol Reef National Park is known for its red rock cliffs and the Waterpocket Fold, not for fishing. Our guided trips for Capitol Reef visitors are on lakes in the surrounding region, outside the park. Check the National Park Service website for current rules about fishing inside the park.

Lakes that fit a Capitol Reef trip

Two of our lakes fit a Capitol Reef trip. They are very different days, so pick the one that matches what you want from the water.

A fishing day between park days

Capitol Reef is one of the quieter national parks, and a guided fishing day fits that pace. Fish Lake is the trophy-hunting day, and Lake Powell is the canyon-variety day. Either one gives you a full day outdoors without the planning.

A guided trip with Henrie Outfitters is a private full day charter with owner and guide James Henrie: up to 6 hours of fishing, so plan on about 8 hours with travel, depending on where you are coming from. Your boat, rods, tackle, bait and lures, life jackets, bottled water and ice are included, and fish are cleaned and bagged with ice if you want to keep them. Beginners, families and experienced anglers are all welcome.
