Common questions

What is included on a guided fishing trip?

A private full day charter for just your group: up to 6 hours of fishing (about 8 hours with travel, depending on where you are coming from), your boat and captain, all rods, tackle, bait and lures, Coast Guard approved life jackets, bottled water and ice, fish cleaned and bagged with ice if you want to keep them, and expert instruction and local knowledge.

How much does a guided fishing trip cost?

Pricing is per boat, not per person, and every trip is a private charter for just your group. A full day is $1,050 for 1 to 2 anglers, $1,225 for 3 anglers and $1,400 for 4 anglers, which is the maximum per boat.

How long is a full day?

A full day is up to 6 hours of fishing time. With travel, plan for about 8 hours, depending on where you are coming from.

Do you offer half day trips?

We specialize in full day charters. Because of the travel to our lakes, a full day gives you the most time on the water.

Do I need fishing experience?

No. Beginners are always welcome. We provide hands-on instruction and teach all gear and techniques.

Can families and kids come along?

Yes. Children are welcome and there is no minimum age, but we cannot take infants under 12 months because life jackets do not fit securely. We provide properly fitted life jackets, and children under 13 must wear one at all times in the boat.

What do I need to bring?

Your Utah fishing license, warm layers or weather appropriate clothes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, snacks or lunch for your group, and a cooler to take your fish home in. Bottled water and ice are on the boat. Please leave dogs at home.

Do I need a Utah fishing license?

Yes. Each angler needs a valid Utah fishing license, which you buy yourself before the trip at wildlifelicense.utah.gov. Adult 3 day licenses are $19 for residents and $44 for non-residents, and 365 day licenses are $40 and $120, but prices can change, so please confirm on the Utah wildlife license site. Please have your license with you at the ramp.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. A 50% deposit secures your date. It is non-refundable but fully transferable to another date within 12 months. We accept cash, card and Zelle, and the balance is due the morning of your trip.

What is your cancellation and weather policy?

Cancel 3 or more days ahead for a full refund or a free reschedule. Cancellations within 3 days forfeit the deposit unless we can rebook your date. We fish in rain or shine, and if we cancel for lightning, high winds or unsafe conditions you can choose a full refund or a free reschedule.

What time do trips start and where do we meet?

We meet you at the lake, not in town. Summer trips typically start at 7:00 AM and fall trips at 8:00 AM. We share the exact meeting location when you book. Depending on the season, we use different spots on each lake.

Can I bring a dog?

No. Because of insurance requirements and open hooks in a small boat, we cannot accommodate dogs.

Can you take guests with limited mobility?

Please call us. Many of our ramps are accessible and some are not, and we will recommend the best lake for your needs.

Do you offer group trips, bachelor parties or birthday trips?

Yes. Every trip is a private charter, and we host families, friends, corporate outings, bachelor parties and birthday celebrations. The maximum is 4 anglers per boat, and for larger groups we can coordinate multiple boats with other trusted local guides.

Do you clean the fish?

Yes. If you want to keep your catch within Utah Division of Wildlife Resources limits, we clean it and bag it with ice at no extra charge. Bring your own cooler. We also support catch and release for trophy fish.

Where do you guide fishing trips?

At six Southern Utah lakes: Panguitch Lake, Sand Hollow Reservoir, Lake Powell, Gunlock Reservoir, Quail Creek Reservoir and Fish Lake.

What fish can I catch?

Largemouth, smallmouth and striped bass, bluegill, crappie, catfish and walleye in the warm water lakes, and rainbow, cutthroat, tiger and lake trout (Mackinaw) and splake in the mountain lakes. Each lake page lists what is there.

Which lake should I choose?

For numbers of largemouth bass, start with Sand Hollow. For striped bass and the widest variety, choose Lake Powell. For trophy trout, choose Panguitch Lake. For trophy lake trout (Mackinaw), choose Fish Lake.

I'm visiting a national park. Can I fit in a fishing day?

Yes. Many visitors take one day out of a park trip to fish. See our pages for Zion, Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef, and our guide to fishing on a Utah national parks trip. The fishing is on lakes outside the parks.

Do you guide hunting trips too?

Yes. Henrie Outfitters offers guided fishing and guided hunting. Contact us to talk about hunting.
